Prosecution has objected to fresh hearing of a sh 22 million case where Former Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Director Davy Koech is charged.
Dr. Koech is accused of abuse of office to improperly confer a benefit upon himself by transferring money belonging to KEMRI from account held at Standard Chartered Bank Ltd, Kisumu branch to account held at Standard Chartered Bank Yaya Centre, Nairobi branch in the name of African Medical Services Trust that was controlled and operated by himself.
Prosecution led by Mr. Warui has listed 12 more witnesses in the case and objected to a fresh hearing in a matter that had a total of 18 witnesses.
In 2012, Senior Principal Magistrate D.N. Mulekyo at the same time warned defence counsel to stop delaying the case which had been pending for three years.
The initial amount was sh 19 million but due to interest has scaled to sh 22 million.
The court will make a ruling on 4 th April 2016 on whether or not the hearing should start afresh.
