The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in partnership with International Justice Mission, held a five-day workshop to review the ODPP Victim/Witness Facilitation Guidelines.

Once completed, the Guidelines will enable the Office to facilitate witnesses and victims to attend court. The team engaged in discussions which addressed existing gaps especially in relation to facilitating vulnerable witnesses and victims.

The Guidelines will among other things, give modalities on how best to actualize the facilitation of witnesses and victims and how to disburse the funds equitably and accountably.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of Victims and Witness Facilitation Unit, Ms. Jacqueline Njagi, emphasized on the role that the Guidelines will play, most importantly that of enabling prosecutors get witnesses to attend court. She regretted that the Office had lost some cases due witnesses failing to testify. Getting the witnesses to testify will ensure that the Office executes its mandate accordingly.
