A Nairobi City court will today make a ruling on whether to release on bond or bail a middle aged man, Benson Masubo alias Chacha accused of coning and extorting money from MPs.
The prosecution is opposing an application by the accused to be freed on bond or bail.
The prosecution argues that the accused is a flight risk, has no permanent aboard and is likely to escape if released on bond of cash bail.
The prosecution wants the accused to be detained pending his trial over fraud related charges.
On Monday, Chacha denied six counts of conspiring to defraud Members of Parliament.
The accused also denied charge impersonating Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege.
Chacha alongside other suspects not before court are accused of using personal details of Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege to register a Mobile Line that he allegedly used to demand and extort money from MPs.
The accused is said to have committed the offense on diverse dates in March 2018 at various places in Nairobi County.
