The DPP, Noordin Haji, has launched Phase 2 of the prisons case review exercise to be carried out countrywide.
Speaking at the Nakuru GK Prison, the DPP said that his office was determined to ensure cases were expedited as soon as possible in order to decongest prisons in the country. He also added that alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as plea bargaining with an accused person would be explored.
So far, the ODPP has reviewed about 10,000 cases in over 20 remand stations. The exercise is ongoing.
