Secretary Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Dorcas Oduor, addresses the teams on ODPP’s preparedness for the 2017 General Election.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has set up two key teams in readiness for the August 8th 2017 polls. These are the Election, Hate Speech and Incitement Cases Prosecution Team and the Election Secretariat Team, whose members are representatives drawn from all the 47 counties and 127 sub-counties where ODPP has presence.

The Election, Hate Speech and Incitement Cases Prosecution Team is handling election-related offences committed before, during and after the forthcoming General Election.

“The ODPP is currently prosecuting five cases under the new Election Offences Act-2016,” said the Secretary Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Dorcas Oduor, during a seminar to officially launch the teams at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

The Election Secretariat Team is overseeing election preparations within ODPP and with its collaborators. The team is already reaching out to stakeholders in government, media, development and private sectors, religious organizations and the civil society. These concerted efforts endeavor to achieve free, fair and credible 2017 General Election.
